50 Years of Aloha!

In 1971, Stephen and Jimmy Tsukayama, opened a small surf shop on Uluniu Street in Kailua Town on Oahu’s Windward coast - and Hawaiian Island Creations was born. Fifty years and thousands of surfboards later, the company has grown to include 16 stores across Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island; providing authentic Hawaiian surf gear to both locals and visitors alike.

HIC Pro, the Official Qualifier of the Vans Tripple Crown of Surfing,

is a QS3,000 rated event that features a 112-man field comprised largely of Hawaii athletes. Held from October 27 through November 9, the competition runs on the three biggest and best days, showcasing the depth of local talent and incredible surf Hawaii has to offer. Winter means giant waves on Oahu’s North Shore, this annual event marks the global shift of the surfing world’s attention to the North Shore of Oahu for the famed winter season.

As one of the last qualifying events of the 2015 World Surf League Tour, athletes are on the hunt for critical ratings points to secure their slot in next year’s Championship Tour, as well as qualify for a place in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing - the most prestigious surfing series in the world. Surfers will be tested both mentally and physically as they go head to head with one of the most complex waves on earth. The HIC Pro is a chance for young aspirants as well as seasoned professionals to fine tune their game and prove themselves on the world stage in hopes of earning a place in surfing history. The power of Sunset Beach merging with the drama of the culminating Championship Tour provides an exhilarating prelude to the North Shore’s winter season. If the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing represents the highest stage in professional surfing, then the HIC Pro provides a first look at its future champions.

Presented by MWR-Hawaii, Hawaiian Island Creations & Quiksilver,

the event is open to active duty and retired US Military and Department of Defense personnel, retirees, and their dependents. Over one hundred surfers compete in fifteen divisions, including Open and Active Duty categories for shortboard and longboard surfing. It’s quite a family affair with competitors ranging from military retirees in their sixties to a quickly expanding keiki division for kids twelve years old and under. Many of these military families can be found each weekend surfing this same stretch of beach on the former Barber’s Point Naval Air Station.

The All-Military Surf Classic is organized by Marvin Nuestro and the White Plains Lifeguard staff, with the support of MWR-Hawaii, whose mission it is to improve the lives of US Military Personnel and their families. Hawaiian Island Creations and Quiksilver are honored to support the men and women of the US Armed Forces who proudly serve our country.

Presented by The Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, HIC, Volcom & The Duke Foundation,

each year the keiki of The Boys and Girls Club get to hit the surf at Kailua’s Kalama Beach during the Annual Ocean Sports and Fitness Day. HIC and Volcom partnered with the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation (ODKF) and the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii (BGCH), give Hawaii youth the opportunity to learn to surf, bodyboard, paddle canoe and play volleyball. All in the spirit of Duke Kahanamoku.

The Ocean Sports and Fitness Day provides a unique opportunity for BGCH members to spend a day learning beach and ocean sports, health, fitness and ocean safety. The participating keiki come from five Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii locations around Oahu, including Waianae, Nanakuli, Ewa Beach, Honolulu and Windward Oahu. For many of the keiki this was their first opportunity to learn to surf, even though they have grown up in the birthplace of the sport.
